What is Alpha?
Alpha is a worldwide course designed especially for new Christians, and those wanting
to investigate Christianity. Here's how it works...
- First we eat! Most churches when running an Alpha course will serve an informal
meal in a relaxed setting. This not only gives you a chance to catch up with your
friends, but also allows you to meet new ones in a safe, friendly environment
- Then someone will give a short, easily accessible talk on the subject of the evening (see below).
The talk is designed to be relevant to those that have no prior knowledge
of Christianity, so there should be no danger of the speaker loosing you in jargon!
- Finally we'll gather into small groups for coffee and discussion on the evening's
subject. This is the point you get to ask all your difficult questions and watch
us squirm as we try to answer them! Part of Alpha's success has come by the openness
of the leaders in each group to field any question, no matter how simple, or hard!
Some popular questions are: Who is Jesus? Is He relevant today? What's the meaning
of Life? What happens when we die? We can't promise to have all the answers for
you but we'll do our very best to point you in the right direction.
Alpha was developed from an idea created by Holy Trinity Brompton, London, the Alpha
course runs world wide, in all the major Christian denominations, and is now have
a huge impact on the prisons of the UK.
